You guys, my skin feels soft. It’s so smooth, so silky, so baby-like… and I’m definitely not a toddler anymore. I’m pretty sure I had more hormonally-induced zits in high school than anyone I know. Now that I’m a somewhat-responsible adult, I’m more diligent about taking care of my skin, and it’s definitely improved but it’s never felt as soft or looked as clear as does right now, and from just ONE product at that.
The Make P:rem Radiance Peeling Serum is a lightweight treatment that brings some serious moisture and radiance to the skin. The milky gel serum deeply hydrates with a light gel texture that absorbs in a flash—great for anyone dealing with excess oil or wanting a non-greasy treatment. I bet you’re wondering however, why peeling? Don’t be alarmed friends, it’s not going to make your face peel off in the literal sense. This serum does however gently exfoliate with Lactobionic Acid, a PHA (read: chemical exfoliant) that is even more gentle than the already mild AHAs you might have heard of before (Splash Mask, anyone?).
The addition of PHA in the formula is what makes this product truly wonderful. As a serum, it already has a solid, good-for-you ingredient list full of botanical ingredients such as Aloe and Birch Sap to hydrate; Hyaluronic Acid, a humectant that helps retain moisture; and Niacinamide, a true skin-saving ingredient that helps strengthen your skin barrier, reduce inflammation, boost cell turnover to treat hyperpigmentation, and retain moisture to plump up fine lines. Unlike a lot of other serums, however, this serum gently—and I really mean gently—helps retexturize skin with the help of lactobionic acid.
Just in case you are unfamiliar with the term, PHAs, short for polyhydroxy acids, are a newer generation of chemical exfoliants. Like AHAs, they work on the surface to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover, which helps with issues such as uneven skin texture, hyperpigmentation, and fine lines. Unlike AHAs, however, PHAs have a larger molecule size, making them even more gentle, because the larger molecular structure allows the acid to sink in more gradually without causing the tingling/burning sensation associated with AHAs and BHAs. PHAs also help effectively retain moisture so skin stays hydrated. If you have ultra-sensitive skin and tried BHAS and AHAs with no luck, definitely give PHAs a try.
The morning after the first night I used the Radiance Peeling Serum, I was shocked at how plump and firm my skin looked. My cheeks almost looked fuller from how plumped up my skin was, and the glow was unreal. I used it again that same morning (this serum is gentle enough to use twice a day!), and it was such a perfect, refreshing addition to my morning skincare routine. I followed up with moisturizer and made sure to apply my fave SPF (Make P:rem’s Capsule Sun Gel is amazing!!) because although the PHA is gentle, it’s still a chemical exfoliant and I don’t want to take any chances!
PSA: Please remember to be diligent with the SPF, especially if used daily—chemical exfoliants, no matter how gentle, can make skin more sensitive to the sun. Using SPF will help protect your skin and make sure that all your hard work doesn’t go to waste.
The Make P:rem Radiance Peeling Serum has been such a welcome addition to my skincare routine. An exfoliating treatment this gentle while also being super hydrating is a pretty difficult find, so I’m really happy I get to share it with the Glow Recipe family.
